Learn about Yoga Therapy
Yoga therapy is an integrative, person-centered approach that uses the tools of yoga—such as movement, breathwork, and meditation—to support healing and overall well-being. This mindful, embodied form of care adapts to the individual’s needs, capacity, and lived experience, with practices carefully selected to support safety, sustainability, and meaningful change.
What is Yoga Therapy?
Unlike a yoga class with a one-size-fits-all approach, yoga therapy is a mindful, embodied approach to health that is tailored and adapts to the individual’s needs, capacity, and lived experience. Based on one’s previous medical history and presenting conditions, practices are thoughtfully selected to support each person’s unique abilities and goals with a custom healing plan of care.
Who is Yoga Therapy for?
Many people arrive at yoga therapy after trying everything else, when conventional or symptom-based approaches have not fully met their needs. What makesyoga therapy especially accessible is that healing can begin from any entry point—physical, emotional, cognitive, or breath-based. If movement isn’t available, there are other pathways in. This adaptability makes yoga therapy one of the most accessible healing tools available, meeting complexity with compassion and offering support even when options feel limited.
What conditions do you work with?
Yoga therapy can support a wide range of health experiences, including structural and movement health, nervous system and stress regulation, hormonal, metabolic, and cardiovascular health, immune, inflammatory, and autoimmune conditions, digestive and gut–brain health, mental and emotional well-being, reproductive and pelvic health, and complex or multisystem conditions.
How is Yoga Therapy different than Yoga?
Yoga therapy differs from many holistic wellness approaches in that it is truly whole-person care. Rather than focusing on just a single system or symptom, it works with the interconnected nature of the body, mind, nervous system, and inner experience. Yoga therapy is often used alongside medical care, mental health treatment, and other therapeutic modalities as a supportive adjunct—not a replacement.
How do I practice Yoga Therapy?
Yoga therapy can be practiced in person or from the comfort of your own home. We offer in-person sessions throughout the Jersey Shore, as well as secure telehealth sessions for those who prefer or need remote care. You don’t need any special equipment or prior experience—just your body and a quiet, comfortable space where you won’t be interrupted. Each session is individualized and adapts to your needs, capacity, and goals.
What happens in a session?
A yoga therapy session begins with a comprehensive intake, typically about 1.5 hours, covering medical history across all areas of health and a discussion of current conditions and concerns. Sessions may include gentle movement, breathwork, mindful conversation, journaling or reflective writing, sound, and chanting. Each session concludes with a personalized take-home plan of care. Follow-up sessions allow for deeper exploration and continued adaptation of practices to support ongoing healing and well-being.
